Black Devils

Honoring the 370th Infantry Regiment

Let's talk about the 370th Infantry Regiment, a group of brave soldiers during World War I. These guys, also known as the "Black Devils," were mainly African American and faced a lot of challenges. Despite the odds, they showed real strength and courage.

Back in 1917, when the regiment started, racial discrimination was a big issue. But these soldiers from places like Chicago stood up to it. Initially, they were given less important tasks, but they proved themselves, earning respect from their fellow soldiers.

Things changed when they joined the 93rd Division, a group of all-black soldiers. They fought on the Western Front alongside French forces. Even though some American commanders weren't fair to them, the French treated them as equals.

A crucial moment for them was during the Battle of the Meuse-Argonne in 1918. They faced tough conditions but stayed strong, making a significant contribution to the Allied victory. But sadly, their achievements often got overlooked in the bigger story of World War I.

Their impact goes beyond the battlefield. The 370th Infantry Regiment set the stage for future African American soldiers, breaking stereotypes and opening doors in the military. Their spirit and duty deserve recognition.

When these soldiers came back home, they faced more challenges. Despite what they went through, many had to deal with discrimination. So, remembering them isn't just about battles but also about understanding the struggles they faced on home soil.

Today, it's essential to keep their memory alive. Through events, education, and memorials, we can make sure their story isn't forgotten. Remembering the 370th Infantry Regiment is our way of saying thanks and acknowledging their bravery and determination. Let's honor these unsung heroes and make sure their sacrifices are never overlooked.
